There is Good News for Black Women

Our Church Girl Book Gatherings got off to a fantastic start Monday evening, September 30, 2024. With 25 attendees and, yes, a surprise visit from Dr. Sarita, the group was jubilant, rejoicing, and hopeful for the journey we are embarking on together: reading and discussing the newly released USA Today bestseller.

Session 1: Forward and Introduction allowed the gathers to tease out Church Girl's Vision for Black Women to receive God's healing, recovery, and revival of self, community, and faith. Our little over 90-minute session roared with praise for the author's clarity even in these first few pages, and they all beamed with anticipation for the Chapters to come, feeling and sensing well guided by the truths Dr. Sarita has already brought to bear.

Sisters reported feelings of pride and empowerment from just handling the book due to the clear intention of its graphically appealing stained-glassed cover, adorned by a young African American lady with a tilted head facing forward and away from the glass behind her. A handful read this image as freedom from the history and stories that have been associated with stained glass and how their themes have never represented the people, blacks, who sat in churches with these glorious beauties.
