W.I.F.E. Lenten Reading | Day 1-Rich Wounds: HIS HABITS (pgs. 15-19)
While we will not be headed to mass for a priest to symbolize the cross in ashes ( the burnt Palm leaves from the previous year's lenten season- used to symbolize where you've been) on our foreheads today; or maybe some will, we can CERTAINLY turn our eyes to the Great High Priest who suffered and died on the Cross for us. Today and the Lenten season is not a biblical imperative, but it has held a long tradition in the Church as the start/ beginning of a 'returning" of sorts to our 1st love; especially if our affections for Christ and the countless ways we ought to be treasuring his Life, Death, and Resurrection has faded- grown dim.
Dearhearts, Easter Sunday is cause for much celebration and rejoicing, and rightly so; but the Christ who rose has a long story of living that we cannot be overlooked and sped past in pursuit of a "happy celebratory feeling "on Easter Sunday.
To truly appreciate the Resurrection and the person of Christ, his sacrifice and suffering- we should consider, and look upon his life. His journey will speak to our journey today: his commitment and zeal for the Kingdom of his Father, will inspire us to "Seek 1st the Kingdom of Heaven"; his many crowns will give us hope as we sojourn to our eternal home, one day to be with Him.
I pray today you will be intentional about asking God to lead and direct your activities, interactions, and appetites over the next 40 days (includes Passion Week). While no set obligations are prescribed (fasting, abstinence from comforts and pleasure, prayer, solitude, and silence); establishing a tool/ a discipline to dedicate to God during this season, has proven to many saints a great instrument for pruning and developing new growth.
God bless!!
