ONLY ONE THING IS NEEDED, CHAPTER 1-Disciplines for Life

This chapter is such tone setter for the journey of growing Spiritually and experiencing a more intimate walk with The Lord. It calls us to quickly recognize the urgent need to make Jesus and an intimate relationship with him the " only thing we need"

In this chapter we get a glimpse into the home of Martha and Mary as Jesus and the disciples unexpectedly stops in for a visit. Many have preached this particular text and to Martha's disadvantage, she is presented in a very disparaging way as she charges God for not caring of her domestic woes , and also accuses her sister.( Luke 10:38-42)

This chapter tough, in closer review brings our lives in closer proximity to Martha and questions how distant we are from Mary. See, Martha in many respects became a victim of urgent and probable rational busyness, while Mary reclines to the feet of Jesus, listening to him teach. As the scenario played out in Luke 10:38-42 we see the Martha get irate and irritated by Mary's posture of devotion to The Lord. As the story unfolds, I wonder if we see ourselves in the mirror of Martha and Mary's lives.

As you take on all the tasks of life...even to point of busyness, do you miss out on the Mary experience of treasuring Christ and making him the " Only One Thing Is Needed" ? How is your life reflective of the Psalm 23, Antithesis? (Pg4)

Leave all reflections on the above questions and any other observational truth that presented in the study of this chapter.

I really relate to Martha and her situation and the way she reacted.I can get so busy and find myself trying to meet other peoples needs and find myself frustrated and blaming others or situations. I have slow down and make the time to read and pray and establish a closer relationship with God and make it a priority.
