Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today I am reflecting on a man who left us a great legacy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A man who lived what he believed, and changed history for us!

Today, I believe Dr. King, husband, father, preacher, teacher, advocate, leader...would say, " don't honor me today solely with doing deeds, but honor me tomorrow with living a life of dignity and promise."
"My memory", he would say, "is to inspire the young and old  to live on purpose, to live their lives worthy of the legacy of all who marched, sat, walked, boycotted,...died!"

Dr. MLK, would herald our children back to the classroom, and call them to be more focused and to take pride in getting a good education. He would bellow a clarion call to parents who have become sideliners in the raising of their children. He would vigorously chide the men to remember their place and position in the home and community. I believe he would paint a picture to once again see Medgar Evers, Emmit Till, George Washington Carver, Marcus Garvey, and Frederick Douglas.

Studing King, I believe he would lovingly steer down the faces of our women and young ladies and tell them of their strength in prayer, and valor to brave a harsh world for our freedom, and ability to hold a family together. He would say, " look to Madam C.J. Walker, Harriet Tubman, Mary McLeod Bethune, Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth, and Fannie Lou Hamer."
He probably would tearfully help us reflect on all that was lost so we can now enjoy the spoils of a violent and murderous , hateful time in history. I think Dr. King, would conclude by encouraging us ,in the reality of our present situations, that in spite of the number of years, and the accomplishments gained... We still have not arrived  in promise land of liberty and justice for all.

I believe, he would celebrate our most triumphant trophy, a black president in the White House; yet, he would confidently inform us, that our work is not done. He would continue on to saty that owning a house, driving the best cars, wearing the latest fashion, eating at the best restaurants, living life on our sleeves...was never even an afterthought in the hard and wearying fight for our liberty; and the right to a good education, our right to riding on public transportation, our right to using the library, our right to public facilities,...our rights to equality!

Today, don't just sign up to volunteer because it's a nice thing to do, decide that tomorrow, you and your household, and with some effort your community will better honor the memories of Dr. King!
